Eiffel Tower When it was built in 1880's the Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world, although the tower has long since lost the crown of the worlds tallest building it is still just as amazing as ever and is a must see when you visit Paris. The tower was built to commemorate the storming of the Bastille, and it took 300 workers to build it. These days the tower is put to work by being used for radio and tv transmissions, meteorological readings and aircraft navigation. Visitors to the tower can go as high as the 3rd level, you can actually walk the first two levels which would take you a total 1060 steps. From level two you must take the lift which will take you to the 3rd level were there is space for some 800 people. Trips can get very busy involving long waits so to avoid the crowds visit the tower first thing in the morning or in the evening. Full listing of Paris Hotels |
